SALT LAKE CITY — For the second time since Thursday, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper has been involved in a crash.

A trooper had stopped to check on motorist who was off to the side of I-215 near mile marker 25 around 6 p.m. when the crash occurred.

The trooper’s rear emergency lights were on, but a motorist coming down the off-ramp plowed into the trooper’s vehicle.

The trooper was not in the car, and wasn’t hurt, and this isn’t the first such accident he has been involved in: the same trooper was hit during an ice storm a few years back.

“He had gotten hit, and when he got out to check on his vehicle and the other vehicle, he got hit again, and his vehicle hit him and threw him into the wall, so he has some history with being hit,” said Cpl. Ben Fallows of the Utah Highway Patrol.

The driver of the car that hit the trooper’s car faces several charges in connection with the crash. Another trooper’s vehicle was involved in a crash Thursday as the trooper was responding to incidents on the Wright Brothers exit off of I-80.

Police said they ask that drivers give them plenty of room when they are assisting motorists.
