The University of Utah came out strong against Oregon Saturday night to take a 7-0 lead, and it looked like they were going to be up by even more after an incredible pass from Travis Wilson to Kaelin Clay that thousands of fans and spectators, including the TV announcers, thought went 78 yards for a touchdown.

The celebration is in full swing, but then you hear: “What’s going on on the field here? Wait a minute…. Joe Walker is in the end zone on the other end.”

The whole thing is best summed up by an announcer, who remarked: “Oh my goodness. What a bizarre play.”

It was ultimately revealed Clay had dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line. Few people realized it until Oregon recovered the ball and took it back 99 yards for a touchdown. See the video above for footage of the play and the ensuing confusion.

Utah would go on to lose the game 51-27. Click here for more details on the game as well as interviews with Clay and Utah’s head coach about the fatal play.
