FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A Colorado State University sophomore has been arrested for allegedly stealing an ambulance, crashing it and then masturbating in front of others at the police station.

KDVR reported 18-year-old Stefan Sortland is facing numerous charges including aggravated vehicle theft, obstructing EMS, reckless driving, hit-and-run, criminal mischief, attempted motor vehicle theft, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and assault.

According to The Coloradan, crews with the Poudre Valley Hospital were treating an intoxicated student for seizures on campus just after 2 a.m. Sunday and when they came out with the patient, their ambulance was missing.

Officials used the GPS in the emergency vehicle to track it down in nearby Loveland, Colorado.

Crews found Sortland standing next to the wrecked ambulance wearing an EMT vest, a blanket and holding a box of crackers.

Officials told KMGH Sortland had hit a few road signs and a median before the ambulance barreled off the road.

Authorities said he wouldn’t obey their commands so they were forced to use a stun gun to take him into custody. Colorado student ambulance Sortland

When authorities got Sortland to the police station, officials said he “stood on a bench, kicked the wall and masturbated.”

The report states a few hours later Sortland attacked two deputies who were bringing him lunch, giving one of them a concussion.

According to the police report, Sortland told authorities he took the ambulance and talked about “following the bright lights and other ramblings which were not relevant to the incident at hand.”

Authorities said Sortland also told them his “friends/roommates were dead, in heaven and had committed suicide.”

Officers said they checked with the two people and found they were both fine.

The police report states Sortland told officers he had taken “molly” and cocaine at a concert before stealing the ambulance.

The patient who was being treated at CSU is expected to recover and was taken to the hospital when a second ambulance arrived, according to The Coloradan.
