WEST JORDAN, Utah - The fight against breast cancer reached a new level when a team of high school football players shaved their heads to support a fellow teammate on Sunday.

Team captain Brandon Russon's mother, Emmie, was recently diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. Knowing she'd soon have to face surgery and chemotherapy, Emmie wanted to shave her head so her hair wouldn't fall out.

Her son, Brandon, didn't want her to feel alone, so he asked his team members at West Jordan High School to join him and shave their heads, too.

His mother was overcome with gratitude. "Just knowing that they're shaving their heads means the world to me," Emmie said. "It just makes me know that I have not only a family here, but I have a family outside my home and on the football field, and the support I'm getting is just totally awesome."

A total of 16 football players had their heads shaved, as well as seven additional members of the Russom family.
