OGDEN, Utah – Police in Ogden are seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect who drove away from police and injured an officer in the process.

An officer with the Ogden Police Department observed a car parked illegally in an unusual place several blocks from Ogden’s El Monte Golf Course, located at 1300 Valley Drive.

The officer saw a man sleeping inside the vehicle. Two officers tried talking to the man, who it was later determined had given officers a false name and is a known criminal named Michael Taren. The man refused to exit the vehicle.

Lt. Tim Scott, Ogden Police Department, said the man drove away and injured an officer in the process.

“At that time, they tried to take Mr. Taren from the vehicle,” he said. “Mr. Taren sped away with the officer still partially within the vehicle. The officer was drug for a few feet, and Mr. Taren escaped custody.”

The officer did not suffer serious injury.

The vehicle was found abandoned near the golf course, along with Taren’s identification. A pit bull was also located in the car, and the animal was given over to an animal control shelter.

A previous mug shot of Taren is above, and officials ask anyone who sees the man to contact Ogden police.
