The ALS Association is on a mission to treat and cure ALS through global research and advocacy, and lately college sports teams in Utah have been helping to raise funds and awareness for that cause through a unique challenge.
The Ice Bucket Challenge is one tool being used in the fight against ALS. Participants are given the ice bucket treatment and then extend the challenge to others, who are encouraged to donate to the fight against ALS and/or take the challenge themselves within 24 hours.
Football coaches and players from Brigham Young University, Utah State University and the University of Utah have all taken the challenge recently. BYU football's head coach, Bronco Mendenhall, called out members of Utah media when he completed the chilly endeavor, and FOX 13 Sports' Bailey McMurdie accepted and carried out the challenge live outside LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo on Friday.
See the video above for footage of Bailey and the others completing the challenge, and click here to visit the ALS Association's website to learn more about the challenge and the ways you can help in the fight against ALS.
Those who take the challenge are encouraged to share their action on social media using the hash tag #IceBucketChallenge
