SALT LAKE CITY — Embattled former Utah Attorney General John Swallow has hired a high-profile criminal defense attorney to represent him in the face of ongoing investigations.
Stephen McCaughey confirmed to FOX 13 on Tuesday that he has been retained to represent Swallow.
The former attorney general is facing a criminal probe by the Salt Lake and Davis County attorneys. The prosecutors recently ordered the FBI to serve search warrants on Swallow’s home, as well as that of his predecessor, Mark Shurtleff.
Swallow is facing accusations of misconduct while in office. Reports prepared by a House Special Investigative Committee and warrants reveal he is under investigation for allegations of official misconduct, bribery, obstruction of justice, evidence and witness tampering.
Swallow has maintained his innocence.
