Woman protects niece in Kearns abduction attempt; Unified Police seek info

KEARNS, Utah — Unified Police hope the public can the help them identify the suspect in abduction attempt that occurred Saturday afternoon.

According to a press release, a 12-year-old girl and her 18-year-old aunt were near 5200 S Charlotte Ave when they passed by a man standing outside a black SUV with its doors open.  The suspect grabbed the girl from behind and started to pull her back toward the SUV, the press release said.

The girl’s aunt then hit the suspect in the head, causing him to let go of the girl.

The suspect was last seen fleeing on on Cross Street. He was described as a Hispanic male with short black hair and a mustache, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 235 pounds.  He was wearing a blue jeans, a maroon jersey and white shoes.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a black four-door SUV, possibly a Chevy Tahoe, with shiny rims. The rims are black in the center.

Anyone with information that may help police identify the suspect is urged to call the Unified Police Department at (801) 743-7000. Police also ask anyone who may have been in the area and saw something suspicious to give them a call.
