OGDEN, Utah — Police have arrested a man who they said admitted to shooting his friend in an argument that turned deadly.

Shawn Boehme, 45, was arrested in connection with the death of 43-year-old Elgie Ray Mills, Jr.

Police responded to 2930 Pennsylvania Ave. on the morning of May 29, where they said a woman had found Mills’ body in a garage.

According to a statement from the Ogden Police Department, Mills had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and the Utah State Office of the Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide.

On May 30, police named Boehme as a person of interest in Mills’ death.

Boehme was located in Layton Thursday morning, police said, and was arrested for criminal homicide.

A detective from the Ogden Police Department interviewed Boehme Thursday and, according to the statement, Boehme admitted to shooting Mills.

“The suspect and victim were friends, they had engaged in a verbal argument that escalated into a deadly encounter,” the statement said.
