The folks behind an Indiegogo project that hopes to replace pavement and asphalt in the U.S. with solar panels has garnered more than $1 million in funding, and the hilarious-but-hopeful video pitch for “solar freakin roadways” has gone viral with nearly 4 million views in about a week.

See the video above for information about the project, which seeks to put touch sensitive, LED-lit solar panels on roads, driveways, sidewalks, landing strips, parking lots, athletic courts and playgrounds. The idea is to generate power while also bringing various futuristic improvements.

Tech Crunch reports the Phase II Prototype was recently completed with the help of funding from the Federal Highway Administration. Click here for Tech Crunch’s Ryan Lawler’s thoughts on the feasibility of the solar roadways.
