UPDATE: A 10-year-old boy says he did not trick a woman who he gifted a foul ball to during a Texas Rangers game. Cameras captured Austin Caney pulling a switcheroo on Saturday, keeping the ball he had just caught and then giving the woman another one he already had in his hand.
But Austin says he did give the woman a real ball from the game– it was one that was thrown into the crowd earlier. “We were getting a few foul balls, but mainly it was foul balls the third base coach caught and tossed them up,” Austin said. “I was told if I got another ball, I should give it to someone else, so I turned around… I thought i was going to give it to someone deep down there, and I saw her right in front of me and I gave it to her,” he added.
Austin said he’s getting a lot of attention now for the footage showing his smooth moves, his teammates have even started calling him “Hollywood.”
