SOUTH JORDAN, Utah – A 10-year-old boy who was hit after riding his bike into traffic was taken to a hospital in critical condition Friday evening.

Sgt. Sam Winkler, South Jordan Police Department, said the child was riding his bike on a sidewalk at 11800 South and 4000 West when he ignored a red light in his direction of travel and rode into traffic.

The boy was struck by a car that had a green light in its direction of travel. The child suffered head injuries and a broken arm. Paramedics stated the boy was in critical condition because of the head injuries, but they said the boy is talking to them and they believe he will recover.

The boy was taken to Primary Children’s Hospital by medical helicopter. Family members who were nearby when the accident occurred were the first to reach the boy and render aid.
