WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley City police said a teen was hospitalized Wednesday after he sustained a gunshot wound.

Police officials said the incident occurred at an apartment complex located at 4535 South Dean Drive in West Valley City.

The 17-year-old victim was inside a residence when the bullets came through the apartment wall and struck him while he was in the kitchen. He was hit in the leg and is expected to live.

Roxanne Vainuku, West Valley City Police Department, said the shots were fired after an altercation involving other individuals in the parking lot of the complex.

“A vehicle pulled into the apartment complex, had some sort of a verbal argument with people outside, that’s when the person inside of the vehicle fired a gun and that’s when the rounds went into the building and hit that young man,” she said.

Police are interviewing witnesses and investigating the scene. So far they have not provided specific details regarding a description of the suspect or vehicle.
