MAGNA — A man was taken into custody Monday after police officers discovered more than 20 pounds of marijuana in his vehicle, a probable cause statement indicated.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., a Unified Police officer pulled up behind a car on the 7200 West off-ramp with its emergency flashers on in Magna. The driver, Leonard Anthony Bargas, told the officer he was traveling across the country, according to the statement.
While talking with Bargas Utah Highway Patrol conducted a search of the car with a K9. The dog eventually alerted police to the trunk of the vehicle.
Bargas was asked to get out of the car and the trunk was opened.
Officers discovered 22 pounds of marijuana, the statement indicated.
Bargas was charged with possession of marijuana between 1-100 pounds, a third-degree felony, and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.
