TAYLORSVILLE, Utah -- A man is in critical condition after he was hit by a vehicle in Taylorsville Tuesday morning.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said the accident happened around 7:40 a.m. near 5225 South Redwood Road.

Hoyal said initially there was a minor crash in the area with no injuries. He said a 35-year-old man who lives in the area saw the crash happen, and he called authorities to report it. While the man was on his phone, a vehicle travelling southbound on Redwood Road struck him.

"There was no injuries in that accident," Hoyal said. "This pedestrian was coming out to report that crash. In the process [he] had walked out into the road, and witnesses indicated that the light was green for southbound traffic and [he] was ultimately struck by the southbound Oldsmobile."

The man was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.
