MIDVALE, Utah -- For the first time ever, Hillcrest High School has a new academic record-- three students getting a perfect ACT score in one year.
The students said there was a friendly competition as they worked to get their high scores, and they're hoping the perfect 36 will open doors for them.
Roughly 1.8 million students take the ACT each year in the U.S., and only about 1,800 get a perfect score.
"I took it the first time and got a 35, and I thought well that's a really good score, I'm really happy with that one," Hillcrest High student Joseph Morrell said. "But then I was just thinking that I could do better, on the off chance I might do better, I really wasn't expecting to get the 36 the second time."
