PROVO, Utah -- A Provo couple saved dozens of dogs destined to spend their lives in the pound or worse.

But once they had that many dogs they had to figure out what to do with all of them, so it just made sense to make a sled dog team.

“We've always had foster dogs, and we started running bigger teams, and then we had the opportunity to start doing tours,” said Racer Gibson. “It's a great way to share it with other people.”

The Gibsons said people often take in huskies and find out they can’t handle their energy.

“They'll be in the shelter, and they'll be bouncing off the walls,” Maren Gibson said. “And they come run on these teams, and they are like, ‘Wow! This is where I'm supposed to be.’”

And now Racer and his team of unadoptable huskies spend their winters giving tourists a ride through the backcountry – a job they were made for and the only place they want to be.

“The days we don’t go run, they just stare at me,” Racer Gibson said. “Every time I go to walk out of the house they are like, 'Are we going to go?'”
