PARADISE, Utah -- Utah Highway Patrol troopers say six children sustained minor injuries when a school bus collided with a tree in Paradise Monday afternoon.
It happened around 3:47 on State Route 165, near mile post 1.
The bus was traveling around a sharp curve when the driver became distracted by a child and took her eyes off the road, according to a statement from UHP.
The bus then went off the road to the right, striking an arrow sign before crashing into two trees at the bottom of a slight enbankment.
"The bus driver stated that she was distracted by a kid who was standing up in the back and was watching him in the rear-view mirror. Next thing she knew she went off the road, felt the tires going off the road," said Trooper Cade Brenchley, Utah Highway Patrol.
The injured children were transported to a local hospital.
"It could've been much worse. It's sad that it happened but it could've been much worse," Brenchley said.
