SALT LAKE CITY – Homeless mothers with newborns got some help from nurses and local organizations this weekend.
The maternity unit at LDS Hospital prepared more than 45 diaper bags to be donated to The Road Home, which is a homeless shelter.
The bags were filled with items like diapers, wipes, bottles and other things mothers need. Melanie Longmore is the nurse manager for labor and delivery at LDS Hospital, and she said they offer support not readily available to homeless women.
“At the homeless shelter there are women that leave the hospital and have nowhere to go, and the homeless shelter will take them in, but they don’t always have the items that are needed to take care of the babies,” she said.
The items for the diaper bags were donated by LDS Hospital, local businesses and the Utah Doula Association.
