GOLDEN, Colo. – Officials are evacuating several areas in Golden, Colorado due to a wall of water moving into the city, which came from an ice jam.
The water was reportedly 4-feet high when it hit the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon around 7:30 p.m. FOX 31 Denver reports that authorities made emergency calls to residents to alert them to the possibility of an evacuation.
The National Weather Service has issued a small stream flood advisory for Clear Creek in the area until 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, the City of Golden tweeted: “FLOOD ALERT UPDATE: The wall of water may have taken a hard right turn, slowed down and possibly causing it to go back under the ice.”
