WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah -- A young woman was both physically and sexually assaulted in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant in West Valley City early Sunday morning.

Several detectives are working on tracking down the suspect, but they are also hoping surveillance footage from the Burger King where the incident occurred will lead to some helpful tips from the public. See the videos above for the footage in its unaltered form as well as at slower speeds and zoomed in.

Police are looking for a suspect after they said he followed a 20-year-old woman into the Burger King on 3500 South and 5600 West in West Valley City just before 3 a.m.

“The employees at the Burger King said they could hear yelling and screaming coming from the bathroom within the facility,” said Sgt. Jason Hauer of the West Valley City Police Department.

The employees said they were alarmed that anyone was even in the building, because at this hour, only the drive-thru is open and the dining room doors are usually locked.

The victim’s friends had gone through the drive-thru to get food while she ran in to use the bathroom. Surveillance footage shows the man walk in after her. After a period of time, the victim’s friend comes in and interrupts the assault. The suspect can be seen trying to pull up his pants while fleeing the scene.

“There are potentially good images; we’re hoping the public can view and give us some information on who he is,” Hauer said.

The suspect is described as being between 5-feet 10-inches and 6-feet tall and weighing approximately 180 to 200 pounds. The suspect has dark hair and is believed to be in his ‘20s or ‘30s, with fresh scratches on his face from the altercation.

“It was physical, and it was a situation where she was trying to fight back,” Hauer said.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact West Valley City police at 801-840-4000.
