SALT LAKE CITY -- Police are seeking the public's help finding two suspects involved in a drive-by shooting that injured two men in Rose Park early Sunday morning.

Investigators said by looking at the extent of the injuries on one of the victims, this could soon turn into a homicide investigation.

Police said two young men were sitting in a parked car on the corner of 400 North and Pamela Way, when an SUV pulled up. It’s unclear if they all knew each other, but police said things immediately got heated.

“There were some words exchanged between the two groups, at which point the males inside the green, boxy SUV shot the two males inside the other vehicle,” said Sgt. Robin Heiden of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The men in the parked car were 19 and 20 years old. Both were hit by gunfire. The 19-year-old is in critical condition at a nearby hospital, and the other is in stable condition.

Police were able to talk to one of the victims, but they said they didn't get much information about the suspects.

“No witnesses that we know about,” Heiden said. “We hope someone heard something or maybe saw the vehicle leave the area. Any information would be appreciated.”

Police said they aren't sure if this is a gang related shooting, but gang detectives are working the case along with homicide investigators. Heiden said investigators are following-up on several leads to try to catch the two men who fled the crime scene.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
