STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR, Utah – An elderly woman from Salt Lake City was killed in a head-on collision near Strawberry Reservoir, and officials believe a medical problem may have been a factor.

Edyth Diane Zito, 74, failed to negotiate a curve as she was driving west on U.S. Highway 40 at about 11 a.m. Friday.

According to information from the Utah Department of Public Safety, the woman’s Toyota continued straight into the eastbound lanes as the road curved to the right. Zito’s vehicle was hit head-on by a Ford Ranger.

Zito was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by an air ambulance crew, which had been dispatched to the accident.

The driver of the other vehicle, 53-year-old Todd Russell Johnson of Midway, was taken to Heber Valley Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries.

U.S. Highway 40 was closed for about one hour, and after that one travel lane was open in each direction. The highway is now completely open to travel.
