SOUTHERN UTAH – Police responded to reports of a dead body near Washington Dam Road in Washington City Friday.
The Spectrum reports that Michael Martin, 41, was driving near the Virgin River to see if there was damage from Wednesday’s rain when he saw five or six vultures on the ground.
Martin told The Spectrum: “You don’t see that very often. I went over to see what it was and noticed it had a hand. I recognized it was a human body, and I called 911.”
Sgt. Ed Kantor of the Washington City Police Department said they are investigating the incident as a suspicious death. He told FOX 13 News the body was so badly decomposed they could not tell if it was a man or a woman.
Kantor said detectives determined the person died somewhere else and was dumped in the river up-stream of where it was discovered. Kantor said the body has been taken to a medical examiner for an autopsy.
Martin told The Spectrum the body looked to be that of a young female.
