LAS VEGAS – A driver from Utah reportedly hit and injured eight people who were leaving a church in North Las Vegas Thursday before attempting to flee the scene.

FOX 13 News’ sister station FOX 5 Las Vegas reports that the hit-and-run incident happened just before 11 p.m. in the 1900 block of Losee Road.

The suspect is 18-year-old Nyakueth Tear of Utah. FOX 5 Las Vegas reports that a group of people were leaving the Iglesia De Cristo church when the driver struck them. The driver reportedly got of the car and looked at the scene before getting back inside and fleeing.

FOX 5 Las Vegas reports that a witness followed the driver to a dead-end, and she tried to flee on foot. Officers set up a perimeter and took her into custody. The eight injured people were between the ages of 15 and 57. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

Tear reportedly told police she had been living in the area for a week out of her vehicle. She also gave police a name that wasn’t the one on her identification card. The woman reportedly faces eight felony counts of hit-and-run, eight gross misdemeanor counts of failure to stop and render aid, as well as multiple other charges.

Police also believe the woman may have been under the influence of drugs when the crash occurred.
