WAYNE COUNTY, Utah – Search and rescue crews located the body of a Missouri man who was reported missing in the Horseshoe Canyon area of Wayne County.
On Sunday evening authorities identified the man as 73-year-old Grant Welland.
Wayne County officials said in a press release that sheriff’s deputies were dispatched early Saturday morning to look for the missing man.
The man was on a hiking trip to various locations, and he was supposed to be out of the canyon on July 28. During the search, a deputy located the man’s vehicle at the Horseshoe Canyon Trailhead.
Due to weather conditions, the terrain and the uncertainty surrounding the time of the man’s disappearance, search and rescue crews along with EMS personnel were dispatched with a helicopter to search.
The body of the man was located shortly before noon. The time and cause of his death is unknown at this time, and the body has been sent to a medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
