SPRING CITY — A 15-acre fire that started Sunday afternoon near Spring City is 35 percent contained.

The fire started around 5:30 on private land two miles east of the city. The Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office implemented voluntary evacuations for 50 homes and cabins in the Pine Mountain subdivision, fire officials said.

Two planes dropped fire retardant on the fire Sunday and two bulldozers and fire engines worked on constructing a fire line overnight.

Resources assigned to the fire Monday include an incident management team, a helicopter, ten fire engines, two bulldozers and two 20-person hand crews.

The fire is fueled by pinion, juniper, sagebrush and grass. Its cause is still under investigation.
