SAN ANTONIO — They call her Thelma and Louise. A two-headed turtle that hatched at San Antonio’s zoo is reportedly doing well, despite her peculiar physical appearance.
Zoo officials said the Texas cooter hatched June 18 and is able to swim and walk. Zoo spokeswoman Debbie Rios-Vanskike said they don’t expect the turtle to experience any health-related problems due to her having two heads.
Another zoo employee joked that Thelma and Louise may have multiple personalities.
“The first time I saw her and held her she seemed like she had a split personality,” said Craig Belke with the San Antonio Zoo. “The right side was looking around very curious and the left side was trying to bite me.”
Texas cooters are commonly seen along rivers and streams.
