MIDVALE - A Unified Police Officer was involved in a shooting following a routine traffic stop. It happened around 2 a.m. this morning at 7953 S. Allen Street at East Manor Apartments in Midvale.

Police say when they pulled 20-year-old Sergio Garcia over, he got out of the car and brandished a shotgun at the officer. The officer shot back several times, but Garcia took off running down Allen Street. Police sent a K-9 Unit to track down Garcia. Police eventually found him hiding next  to a garage at 8050 S. Allen Street. He resisted arrest, and spent a short time in the hospital after being bit by a K-9 dog. He was then sent to jail.

Police say they went to Garcia's home around 8:20 p.m. last night, responding to a domestic dispute. He wasn't there. His family told police he left with a shotgun.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured. Police continue to investigate the incident.
