OGDEN, Utah - An Ogden couple says police shot and killed their dog without cause, and now they want an explanation.

The incident happened on the 2400 block of Jackson Ave. on Sunday evening.

On Sunday, Ogden police responded to a complaint that Dan Moracchi had answered his door earlier that evening with a gun in his hand.

Moracchi says that when he opened his door for police, he tried to keep his dogs inside the house, but the dogs pushed their way out.

"The officer was hollering in my ear to control my dog, control my dog. And for a split second I turned my head back to the officer and I heard two gun shots," Moracchi said.

Moracchi says that at the time, they got no explanation from police as to why their dog Max was shot. They say that they discovered through news reports that one of the officers felt threatened, but say those reports are inconsistent.

"Now all of the sudden it pops up, oh, by the way, there was another officer your dog went after on the right side of your house. This is the first myself, anybody in my family had ever heard of this officer allegedly trying to TAZER my dog," Moracchi said.

Another dog, Rusty, ran away in the commotion and hasn't been seen since.
