OGDEN, Utah -- FOX 13 has obtained surveillance video from the night a man was hit by a car on busy Wall Ave. and left to die in the street.

Ogden police detectives investigating the death of David Saures, 56, are reviewing that same video in hopes of enhancing it to find out who hit the homeless man and sped off into the night on Christmas Eve.

The video was taken from a surveillance camera mounted above St. Anne's Center near 26th Street and Wall Ave. Jennifer Canter, the shelter's director, showed the video to FOX 13 on Monday. About 100 yards out, on the street, the faint image of a vehicle braking can be seen.

Much closer to the shelter, people who witnessed the accident run to help Saures. Police said he was hit while crossing Wall Ave. about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 24.

The camera does not show the accident itself, but Canter said it does appear to show the vehicle brake after Saures was hit. Police have said they believe the vehicle's driver pulled over, then took off.

"In that particular shot, there's only one vehicle that goes by in that time frame and you can see headlights and brake lights as it goes by," Canter said. "I think it has a good shot to be that vehicle."

Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford told FOX 13 on Monday investigators have also inquired of other surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

Police said they continue to search for a dark-colored minivan that would have front-end and windshield damage, as well as be missing a windshield wiper. They were also looking for a dark-colored four-door sedan that may have also hit Saures, but could have also witnessed the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to call Ogden police at 801-629-8221.
