SANDY, Utah – Scheels, the 220,000-square-foot sporting goods store that boasts a 65-foot Ferris wheel, a 16,000-gallon aquarium and more, opened in Sandy on Saturday.
The Sandy store, the first in Utah, also has two full-sized bowling lanes and five sports simulators.
“It’s a little bit of everything but it’s all sporting goods, we sell guns, hunting, fishing, every sport you can imagine, outdoor, indoor,” said Karen Jones, Scheels store leader.
Sandy City expects 400 employees to be hired and 3 or 4 million people to visit each year.
Utah was chosen by the company for its interest in the great outdoors and how the business would fit into the state’s culture.
