SALT LAKE CITY – Mayor Ralph Becker and Councilman Carlton Christensen, along with project partners, are planning to celebrate the completion of the new section of the Jordan River Parkway Trail.
The completed segment of the trail expands one mile from Redwood Road near 1800 North to the Davis County line. The new section includes a paved bike path, a horse trail, and an elevated walkway through a wetlands area. A trailhead parking lot was also created around 1800 North Redwood Road.
Mayor Becker said the culmination of this new segment is a milestone in this project.
"This is definitely a moment for celebration and a testament to the countless individuals, advocacy groups and government agencies that have been working together for decades to build this incredible regional resource," Mayor Becker stated. "Having 35 miles of protected, unbroken bicycle and pedestrian trail access, that is both a recreational scenic splendor and practical commuter option is a fabulous accomplishment."
City funds and grants from the Utah State Recreational Trails and Land and Water Conservation Fund programs financed this project.
The interconnection of the Jordan River Parkway Trail, the Legacy Parkway Trail, and the Denver & Rio Grande Western Rail Trail allows trail users to travel from Salt Lake City to Davis County and other northern Wasatch Front communities.
The entire Jordan River Parkway Trail system is currently around 35 miles with only four small sections remaining to be completed.
