UINTAH COUNTY, Utah — A semi-truck driver was killed Monday morning in a rollover crash on US-191 about 20 miles north of Vernal.
Utah Highway Patrol said the semi, which was hauling oilfield pipe on a flatbed trailer, was traveling south on the highway around 5 a.m. when the accident occurred.
The truck lost control while going through an area of switchbacks, went off the side of the road, then rolled and landed upside down.
The driver was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. No one else was in the truck.
UHP said the highway had to be closed for over two hours because the 6-inch by 43-foot pieces of steel pipe were strewn across the road. The Utah Department of Transportation had to bring in heavy equipment to remove them.
The driver's identity has not yet been released. They are from Texas, and officials say they are working to notify the victim's next-of-kin.
