Halloween will be happening in one way or another, so Trish Brimhall with Nutritious Intent is working with the National Confectioners Association to remind you that candy can be enjoyed as part of an overall balanced diet.
So whether you're taking trick-or-treaters on a modified route this year, or celebrating at home, here are some tips to keep candy consumption under control while still enjoying the holiday.
• Plan a favorite meal for Halloween – don't skip meals in anticipation of candy consumption.
• Save out your favorite candy and donate the rest.
• Portion your stash in bags 100 calories or less and store it where the choice to eat it is intentional – for example in the freezer.
• Brushing your teeth after enjoying some candy helps with dental health but also helps curb the need to continue eating more and more candy.
