The Rebound: McKay Diamonds and Jewelry in downtown SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — McKay Diamonds is one of the oldest — and smallest — stores in Salt Lake City.

It opened in in 1949 as a mom and pop shop, and continues that way today, with owners Joaquim and Sandra Andrade.

COVID-19 forced the closure of McKay’s for 35 days in March and April.

The store has opened again now that Salt Lake County has lifted restrictions on non-essential businesses.

Meanwhile, Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall has asked business owners in the store to refrain from opening if possible.

Watch the video to see and hear why the Andrade’s feel safe allowing customers back inside.
