SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City School District began distance learning classes Monday.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the district had planned to begin the day after Labor Day, September 8, but a massive windstorm forced classes to be delayed.
It is the only district in the state to begin with 100 percent remote learning.
Teachers will teach live via video conferencing and students will get their lesson plans via Canvas.
District plans could change if COVID-19 numbers improve.
It will begin in person learning or a hybrid between in person and remote learning if the percent of positive tests drops below 5 percent for seven straight days. That rate is currently at 9.3 percent after the highest three days of new cases since mid-July.
