TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Four new wildfires were sparked within a few hours on Monday afternoon, all in the area west of the Tintic Mountains and east of Dugway in northern Utah.
The Slater Fire is burning an estimated 74 acres about six miles east of Dugway and west of the Onaqui Mountains. While the community of Terra was originally placed on "SET" evacuation status, it was dropped to "READY" and lifted altogether on Tuesday afternoon.
State wildfire officials said that the Slater Fire had "leveled off momentarily" in its growth. Air tankers are dropping retardant in the area while ground crews head to the scene.
The Tom Creek Fire has exploded in size overnight, growing to 3,860 acres in the Simpson Mountains, 16 miles southwest of Vernon. Crews are now focusing firefighting efforts on the south and west flanks of the fire.
The Big Mountain Fire has shown no growth and remains at 166 acres in the East Tintic Mountains southwest of Utah Lake.
