SALT LAKE CITY — Forget what the calendar says, spring will unofficially start on Feb. 15 when Shamrock Shakes make their annual triumphant return to McDonald's.

You don't have to be Irish to enjoy the creamy vanilla goodness of the green holiday treat.

Although created in 1967 by a local Connecticut McDonald's operater, Shamrock Shakes didn't make their national debut until 1970; and the rest, they say, is history.

“For more than 50 years, fans have eagerly awaited the annual return of the Shamrock Shake, counting on the arrival of Shamrock Shake Season to mark the unofficial start to spring,” said McDonald’s Sr. Director of Culinary, Chad Schafer. “We know this winter may feel longer than others so we’re thrilled to give customers something to look forward to by bringing both fan-favorites back to the menu this month.”
