HINCKLEY, Ohio — Police say a 3-year-old boy and his dog were abandoned at an Ohio cemetery just two days before Christmas.

Witnesses told authorities they saw a car speeding away with the boy and dog chasing after it on Dec. 23, WJW reports.

The boy, who said his name was Tony, was placed in foster care as police attempted to identify his parents. A relative saw the boy's photo on Facebook and contacted Tony's father.

The father told police Tony had been in the custody of his mother when he was abandoned.

As police continue their investigation, the boy has been put into the care of an aunt and uncle.

Before his parents could be identified, gifts and clothes were donated from across Northeast Ohio to insure Tony had a great holiday despite his situation.

The Hinckley Police Department shared a photo on Facebook of all the gifts that had poured in to the station lobby.

"Our lobby is full from the gifts that have been dropped off. I reached out to my friend Santa and tomorrow morning after he has finished his deliveries he is going to stop at HPD. We are going to load the sleigh and make one final stop to see a our little friend." wrote Hinckley Police Chief David Centner.

From all of us at HPD we want to thank everyone for your kindness, thoughts, prayers and overwhelming love. Our lobby...
