WEST JORDAN, Utah — A woman was arrested Friday after police say she shot her son in the leg with a bow and arrow.
Chelsie Marinos Huggins, 38, faces felony charges of aggravated assault and child abuse after a bizarre incident in a West Jordan neighborhood.
Police were initially called to the area of 7700 South and 5200 West that afternoon on reports of a stabbing. But after speaking with witnesses, Huggins and the 17-year-old victim, they say he was shot with an arrow.
According to court documents, the boy had a "large laceration" on his leg. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Police told FOX 13 Saturday that the two have a mother-and-son relationship but are not blood-related.
After being arrested, Huggins told police her son stole her car. After she convinced him to come back, she was waiting on her roof with the bow and arrow and shot both the car and him with it when he returned, she said.
When police arrived on the scene, they found arrows stuck in the grass nearby.
Witnesses also told police that Huggins pointed a rifle and handgun at her son at some point, then chased after him on an ATV before it broke down in the middle of the road. They also reportedly heard her tell the teen to not come back or she would kill him.
This wasn't the first time police had responded to the home for a domestic violence issue.
One previous call was a shooting that left one person in serious condition in August.
