SALT LAKE CITY — New unemployment claims in Utah remained level over the past week, continuing a plateau that has lasted for nearly two months.

During the week of September 20-26, there were 4,458 new unemployment claims, just 19 claims less than the previous week. Claims have continued to drop week-by-week since April 25.

“We continue to see economic recovery as evidenced by the now twenty-one consecutive weeks of reduced ongoing claims for unemployment benefits in the state of Utah,” said Kevin Burt, Unemployment Insurance Division director for the Utah Department of Workforce Services. “It is clear this pandemic continues to be disruptive, but Utah’s diverse economy does offer employment opportunities to those actively looking for them.”

The number of Utahns continuing their unemployment claims also dropped from last week by over 3,500 to 44,306.
