CENTERVILLE, Utah — K9 Sophie and her handler, Officer Jason Shields from the Centerville Police Department are receiving specialized training on how to trail a person's scent.
Sophie is a Blood Hound, which is a breed known for their ability to follow a scent trail.
Two Blood Hound training experts from "Northeastern Houndsmen" are instructing the training, which was made possible by a grant from Walmart.
The Department believes that with the training, Sophie will be especially helpful in finding lost children, at-risk adults and criminals.
In a recent training session, Chief Child, the Chief of Police with the Centerville Police Department participated by "laying down" a trail and hiding in a thicket. Sophie led her handler right to him.
Officials hope that the training will help the Centerville community as well as other communities in Utah.
