SALT LAKE CITY — Next month, the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles will stop reminding motorists to renew their vehicles' registration via mail.
The DMV sends hundreds of thousands of postcards each month to Utahns, reminding them that their registration is expiring soon.
But in an announcement earlier this week, the division said the practice results in many being returned as "undeliverable," and they are then destroyed.
To use taxpayers' money more efficiently and to continue the increase in online services, the postcards are being discontinued in September.
Instead, the DMV advises drivers to visit dmv.utah.gov to sign up for email reminders.
The DMV also reminds Utahns that renewing registration and other services can be done online without a visit to its branches, which sometimes have extremely long lines since the COVID-19 pandemic.
