In accordance with mandates issued on Friday, UTA is now requiring riders, operators and employees in Salt Lake and Summit Counties to wear face coverings.
Due to the increased number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 across the state, beginning next Wednesday, July 1, UTA will require face coverings system-wide.
The agency has already implemented multiple safety and disinfecting efforts since mid-March in response to the pandemic.
In a media release, UTA said "Many Utahns depend on the essential service UTA provides. The requirement of face coverings for riders and employees ensures UTA can continue to serve the community in the safest way possible. UTA shares the same goal as the state in reducing the spread of COVID-19 to keep the Utah economy strong and moving toward recovery."
Masks are available to those who need one. They can currently be picked up at UTA Customer Service locations, and will be available on transit vehicles soon.
