MILLCREEK, Utah — Unified Police are looking for the person responsible for fatally shooting a woman in Millcreek Wednesday night.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. at a home near 4500 S 800 E.

When officers arrived, they found a 57-year-old woman sitting in a car. The woman had suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.

Emergency crews applied a tourniquet and rushed the victim to a hospital, but she died from her injury.

Police said the woman had been visiting a friend's home for dinner.

The woman was later identified by police as Linda Nemelka, age 57, of Murray.

"It's very odd, given the circumstances that this isn't her home, always the potential that it's random," said Sgt. Melody Gray, a spokeswoman for the Unified Police Department. "At this point, it's really hard to tell if someone was here, maybe looking for someone else. We just don't have any idea at this point."

As of Thursday morning, police had little information that might help them identify a suspect in the shooting.

"All we have from witnesses is seeing a dark-colored SUV leaving the scene," Gray said.

Police say there are still no further leads in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
