MIDVALE, Utah — Unified Police Department officers are on the scene of a fatal auto-motorcyle accident in Midvale Tuesday morning.

The accident took place around 7 a.m. in the intersection of 7200 South and State Street.

FOX 13's Lexie Johnson is at the scene and has confirmed the motorcyclist was killed.

UPD Sgt. Melodie Gray tells her the motorcycle was heading southbound on State Street.

A Honda automobile, driven by a 22-year-old Cesar Riviera Herrera of West Jordan, was heading northbound in the southbound lanes and crashed head on with the motorcycle.

Another car turning right onto State Street also was hit.

The man on the motorcycle is 81 years old. He was taken to a hospital but died a short time later.

The driver of the second car involved was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Herrera has been taken into custody and investigators suspect he was intoxicated.

“We have a young man now who’s potentially facing vehicular homicide charges, his life‘s gonna be ruined," Sgt. Gray said. "This man is dead, it’s not worth it call a rideshare call a taxi call a friend.”

There is debris scattered all over and the accident reconstruction team is on scene to determine just what happened.

Roads in the area will be closed for several hours while the investigation takes place.
