RIVERTON, Utah — The Utah Department of Transportation will close 12600 S to east/west traffic at the intersection with Bangerter Highway for seven months as road construction crews install a freeway-style interchange.
The closure will begin Thursday night. Drivers can continue using Bangerter Highway, but will not be able to cross the intersection when traveling east or west.
Instead, drivers will need to use alternate routes, which include 11400 S and 13400 S.
"Although east-west traffic will be restricted, northbound and southbound drivers on mainline Bangerter Highway will have free-flow travel with the permanent removal of the traffic signal. Right turn movements to/from 12600 South will also be allowed.," a news release from UDOT says.
UDOT worked closely with Riverton City on its plans for the underpass.
"The bridge components are built first, and then we can start the excavation. Unfortunately, as we are building down, there's not enough room for both drivers and construction activities. So, that's why we've partnered with Riverton City as well as the nearby businesses to coordinate this east/west closure," said UDOT engineer Mackenzie Smith.
Riverton City published a list of nearby businesses and urged its residents to support those businesses during the construction project.
