WILLARD, Utah — Thousands of truck drivers a day make their way through the port of entry in Willard, UT each day. Things are especially busy right now, one truck driver said.

Wednesday, truckers didn’t just pass through, they were asked to stop and asked a simple question, ‘turkey or ham?’. Two-thousand free lunches were handed out thanks to Sharp Transportation, along with Carrier Transicold of Utah, Prime Trailer LLC and Iron Gate Catering.

“To endure the threat of catching a virus and still transporting good across the country, just fills my heart and I just wanted to thank all the drivers,” Zan Sharp, President of Sharp Transportation, said.

Truck drivers don’t get told ‘thank you’ enough, Sharp said.

“Not as often as you would think, but they do say ‘thank you’ once and a while and this is one ‘thank you’ that I really appreciate,” one truck driver said.

It was an emotional day, in a good way, Wednesday.

“I didn’t get much sleep last night. You almost get emotional thinking about it that you’re able to do something nice for somebody at a time like this,” he said.

The thing about generosity is it is often contagious.

“We just gave a truck driver a lunch and he pulled out his wallet and says, ‘hey, I want to donate to you guys’ and I said, ‘oh, that’s not necessary we are here for you’ he said, ‘no, no, no. I want to give you twenty dollars to buy more food for more truck drivers,” Wendell Taylor, a branch manager for Prime Trailer, said.

It’s awesome to see people spreading kindness, one truck driver said. It’ll take everyone working together to get through this.

“I’ve been through it before,[Hurricane] Katrina, you know, national emergencies we are here,” he said.
