TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — A mysterious visitor's holiday surprise delivered Christmas cheer to one family.
Video from a doorbell camera shows a person dressed like a ghost leaving an item on the doorstep of Stacy Pitkin’s home on the night of Christmas Eve.
“The alarm went off on our front door camera,” Pitkin said. “We watched the video over and over. I looked at it and it was a ghost. I looked at it again and it was a ghost.”
After the ghost was long gone, Pitkin went outside to find an item marked "Christmas Jar." Inside the jar were dollars and coins totaling more than $100.
“I wasn’t sure what they left because that’s a strange thing for a ghost on Christmas Eve rather than Halloween,” Pitkin said.
The gift was a welcome surprise for Pitkin and her family during a challenging year. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted her ability to work because of a health condition that puts her at a higher risk of catching the virus.
So far, no one has come forward to take credit for leaving the gift.
“I don’t think at this point I am going to find out,” Pitkin said. “I think somebody would have come forward by now.”
For now, the Christmas Eve delivery remains a mystery. This act of kindness is one that Pitkin hopes to replicate in 2021.
“I’d like to keep a jar full of change and do it for someone next year,” she said. “But now they’ll know it’s me.”
